Acherontas is a Greek band that was founded as a worship and was active for several years as Stutthof (also incorrectly reproduced as Stuthoff ).

history

The band was founded in 1996 or 1997 under the name Worship. In 1997 the demo CD Through the Dark Age We Are Dreaming , limited to 200 copies, was released , the title song of which was also released in 1999 on the NSBM sampler Black Metal Order - Aryan Hellenic Art by Triskelon Records.

Entrance to the old camp of the Stutthof concentration camp

In 1998 the band renamed itself to Stutthof. In 2001 the split release Into the White Waters of Hellas appeared with Gauntlet's Sword, Stutthof's page was titled Hecate's Embrace . Eight new songs were recorded in 2002, followed by the debut album Towards Thy Astral Path ... and the EP An Ode to Thee Ancient Great Goddess in 2003 . In 2005 unreleased material from 1999 appeared on the split cassette Beyond the Forest of Infernal Devastation with the French band Nemeton and the album And Cosmos from Ashes to Dust… . In addition to some re-releases, a split EP with Satanic Warmaster followed . In 2007 two split releases came out with the Greek band Legion of Doom . After that, the band renamed itself to Acherontas, which she describes as a reinvention. In 2007 the first album was released under a new name, Tat Tvam Asi (Universal Omniscience) , on Zyklon-B Productions. In 2008, Porphyrion left the band Kawir and joined Acherontas after Kawir released the album Ophiolatreia .

Split releases with Necromantia , Leviathan and Drowning the Light and the album Theosis followed . The band then signed with Agonia Records . In 2011, the band announced their collaboration with Necroterror and announced that they would no longer work with record labels and people from Greece. In the same year the album Vamachara appeared on Agonia Records, a joint re-release of the first two albums with bonus material on Darker Than Black Records and the EP Hermeticism on WTC Productions, both of which come from the Absurd environment. In 2012 the splits Ana Harrani Sa Alaktasa La Tarat with Crimson Moon, Akrabu and Shibalba and The Ruins of Edom with Nightbringer followed , a re-release of Theosis on Darker Than Black Records and of Stutthof recordings. In addition, Cain Letifer, Acherontas and C. Docre from Acherontas and Acrimonious respectively supported the band Nightbringer on their tour, and Acherontas and Nightbringer performed at the Black Metal Is Rising in Paris and the Under the Black Sun Open Air.

For the summer solstice 2013 the release of the album Amenti - Ψαλμοί Αίματος και Αστρικά Οράματα at WTC Productions has been announced, with Naas Alcameth from Nightbringer, Henry Möller from Arditi and Puissance , Jhon Longshaw from Black Yme Kervalkten from Emgar Seas of Infinity and Edgar . Since drummer Gionata Potenti, bassist Scorpio (including Melechesh , Crimson Moon, Zemial , Demoncy , Ancient ) and guitarist Saevus H. (Devathorn) had joined Acherontas as new members, the recording process for Acherontas V Priest was the most difficult period he had had spent with the band.

music

The rune Elhaz or Algiz as a "rune of life".
The seal of the Baphomet of the Church of Satan.

The demo material under the name Worship was based on classical Greek Black Metal , whereby "the screeching vocals are underlaid with a good reverb and the keyboard is often and gladly used".

Stutthof was less oriented towards traditional Greek Black Metal, but Greek elements can occasionally be heard. Towards Thy Astral Path… was still largely influenced by the keyboard, which is no longer true for And Cosmos from Ashes to Dust… ; this begins with the “ operetta-like harmony” An Invocation to Those Who Have Risen , the following Wampyric Metamorphosis is “more detailed and powerful, the rough, garish and flat sound passé” compared to the debut album, the songs are “very long and therefore also more varied ”. The song on the split EP with Satanic Warmaster, … Ancient Visitors from Ur… And the Holocaust of Renegades , has been described as grim Black Metal with a raw production and strong atmosphere, not far from Satanic Warmaster's style.

Like Stutthof, Acherontas is not based on the warm, bass-heavy style of Greek bands that is typical for bands like Necromantia and Varathron , instead the sound is more Swedish. Alfa: Genesis at the beginning of the first Acherontas album Tat Tvam Asi (Universal Omniscience) comes from the score for The Fountain written by Clint Mansell . Stylistically, the album is close to the material recorded as Stutthof, although a little less raw. The style of Hermeticism -EP was described by Robert Müller from Metal Hammer as "[l] orernder, mad, very occult Black Metal, on the one hand totally traditional, on the other hand played as if there was no tomorrow". The EP is considered to be influenced by Nordic bands like Emperor , Marduk and Mayhem . The title song of the album Vamachara is based on Black Metal of the 1990s “with large, quickly played melodies and heavy nagging. Nice-fitting breaks , well thought-out leads . The gentlemen thought about the composition. The Power Metal part at the end is very original . ”In the riff that opens Amenti - The Lamp ov the Desert , Alex M. from Stormbringer.at sees the alleged“ mother of all Swedish Orthodox Black Metal riffs ”. In the “rockier stanza parts” of The Stele ov the Last Conjuration , Acherontas “commendably refers to the proud Greek black metal past”, the interlude Nebt-Het - Divulgence of Ηer Sacral Temples reminds of Necros Christos , followed by material that sounds "like DEATHSPELL OMEGA in slow motion".

Texts and ideology

The name Stutthof refers to the concentration camp of the same name , which is why the renaming Robert Müller reminded of Treblinka or Tiamat from Sweden. The Stutthof lettering in broken script on Into the White Waters of Hellas and Towards Thy Astral Path ... contains the rune of life and death , the song titles Opus I: Blut (Blood) , Opus II: Boden (Fatherland) and Krieg und Boden play also on the blood-and-soil ideology of the National Socialists. In their phase as Stutthof, the band is said to have dedicated their works to Varg Vikernes , Hendrik Möbus and the Chrysi Avgi party . Mikko Aspa (including Grunt, Clandestine Blaze , Northern Heritage) mentioned in Dark-Moon - Fanzine that the band had sent him “girlishly perfumed” soap, presumably as an allusion to the Holocaust ; however, probably in contrast to these people, he did not use perfumed soap and therefore threw it away.

On An Ode to Thee Ancient Great Goddess and Beyond the Forest of Infernal Devastation , the lettering also contains the seal of the Baphomet of the Church of Satan (CoS). The text for Crossing the 9th Gate to the Kingdom of Shadows from the album And Cosmos from Ashes to Dust… comes from the chapter Infernal Diatribe of the Satanic Bible written by the late CoS founder Anton Szandor LaVey . The album was also dedicated to him and the Temple of Vampires (the latter also had the split EP with Necromantia, the lyrics to Legacy of Tiamat also came from the Theosis album from the Temple of Vampires ); when Vth Priest was young, LaVey was a good source to realize that he must first look for the deity within himself and then outside. However, he is no longer interested in the CoS; she is good for the first steps as a young person, and he is not against her either. He stands against nothing and does not deny anything; his mind is free to study anything, and he thinks he is experienced enough to distinguish fairy tales from serious things. And Cosmos from Ashes to Dust… is considered to be “mature […], which can also be deduced from the subject matter, which in the current work is exclusively about occult and satanic content”; Acherontas describes the album as a "masterpiece of occultism and satanic majestic attitude". On And Cosmos from Ashes to Dust… and the publications from 2005 on, there is a new lettering without runes and with an inverted pentagram . Of the material released after the renaming, "not everything appeared on kosher labels". In connection with the NSBM , Priest said that he supported activism in all philosophies and quoted Vladimir Ilyich Lenin that theory without action is nothing. Stutthof is an occult band, but at times he worked himself into politics and especially this form of expression and things like runic magic and ancestor worship . He was still concerned with history and paganism , but had not been interested in politics for many years; Although he is aware of what is going on, he cares about his own survival without relying on politicians. As for NSBM, he likes three or four bands; the problem is not what philosophy they have, but their music. He himself is not a racist , but believes in the rule of the strong over the weak and the intelligent over everything. By Giorgos "Kaiadas" Germenis and its commitment to Golden Dawn asked, he explained, this was to become a friend in 1997 and whose band Naer Mataron to like particularly because of their older releases. The band has nothing to do with his political views. He respects that kaiadas are faithful to beliefs and enjoys good conversations with him that are not political; that is what it is about and not about his political views. Acherontas emphasizes that she is not a Nazi band.

According to V. Priest, the philosophy has been the same in every phase of the band since 1996, he has been referring to the concept of the draconian path since the early days of Stutthof. According to their own account, Acherontas is a ritual coven dedicated to the ancient Sumerian mysteries of blood. These ancient sources would be transported through many traditions and would take form as Astral Vampirism , Hermetics , Kabbalah , Dreamwork, and Luciferic Exaltation. True witchcraft is not an art, it is a science . Vamachara refers to the ancient worship of the female archetype by the Vama cult.
