Naer Mataron is a Greek black metal band founded in Athens in 1994 as Nar Mataron .

history

The band was founded in 1994 by the two musicians Morpheas (guitar, bass) and Lord Alatoth (vocals). Kaiadas (electric bass) and Lethe (drums) were recorded as a further line-up and the band got a record deal with Black Lotus Records. After the band name was changed to Naer Mataron, the debut album Up from the Ashes was released in 1998 without Lord Alatoth, followed by some live performances with bands such as Mayhem , Rotting Christ and Order of the Ebon Hand .

In 2000, the album Skotos Aenaon followed with the singer Aithir (Nikos Konstadinou, among other things with Legion of Doom and later with The Shadow Order) and 2003 River at Dash Scalding , in which the drummer was exchanged for Warhead, who at a live - Appearance with Rotting Christ played for the first time in the band. Morpheas has now been hired as a singer and two songs appeared on the album, which were composed by Nordvargr . Nordvargr became the band's new drummer and performances with Gorgoroth , Arcturus and Dissection followed .

In 2005 the album Discipline Manifesto was released , some of which was recorded in Oslo . At the Inferno Metal Festival Norway in Oslo 2005 they performed together with Morbid Angel , Candlemass , Dissection and other bands. In 2006 a split 7 "EP with Voice of Hate was released. In 2007 the band signed with Season of Mist and recorded the album Praetorians at Skrekk & Skru Studios in Oslo , which was produced by their new singer Vicotnik ( Dødheimsgard ). Both Bands performed together in Thessaloniki and Athens in October 2007, the album was released in 2008. In 2009 Asmodeus Draco Dux became the new drummer of the band that Jarboe accompanied on their European tour. In 2011 Naer Mataron signed with Witching Hour Productions and released the album ΖΗΤΩ Ο there ΘΑΝΑΤΟΣ . For the lyrics and vocals of the title track, the band Jarboe could win.

Music style and ideology

The band was founded with the aim of playing pure Hellenic Black Metal, their style, however, is a mixture of the typical Greek of bands like Varathron and Thou Art Lord and Nordic Black Metal or the latter. With the collaboration of Indra and Asmodeus Draco Dux, the band's style became more brutal. Accordingly, River at Dash Sealding was compared with the early works of Immortal and Marduk , without copying them, with “over long stretches of the songs conspicuous [r] uniformity. Despite many positive approaches, the material seems too monotonous without, for example, achieving the hypnotic effect of old Burzum songs. ” Discipline Manifesto, on the other hand, was compared to Gorgoroth ; the pieces “are multi-faceted, but never lose their oppressive atmosphere: the opener 'Extreme Unction' will drag you through the undergrowth for almost ten minutes, offering a compact preview of the horror that is yet to come. Claustrophobic interludes and intros are not dropped half-heartedly, but dissolve into oblique mid-tempo segments to bubble on under the skin, and this time Master Morpheas gives his singing an ice-cold diction . "

The meaning of the name gives Kaiadas with Hades . The texts revolve around the Greek pantheon and values such as pride and honor based on earlier periods and heroes of European history and contain allusions to Friedrich Nietzsche and Julius Evola . Despite the commitment to National Socialism and Kaiadas' membership in the Chrysi Avgi party , for which he now sits in the Greek parliament , Naer Mataron was not advertised as a Nazi band, since the promotion and official biography were a matter for Black Lotus Records, in which the Kaiadas themselves did not want to interfere, because he knew his views and did not have to prove anything to anyone. He is not a Satanist , but sees Satan as a new Prometheus and a new Eosphorus ; Satan could also be the hammer of Thor or the thunder of Zeus . Contrary to Kaiadas' demarcation from Satanism, Discipline Manifesto and ΖΗΤΩ Ο ΘΑΝΑΤΟΣ contain song titles such as Blessing of Sin , I Am Lucifer, Messenger of Your Death and Goat Worship . Compared to the Underground Industries , an unnamed member of the band stated that Satanism was quite similar to its own ideology; Black metal is satanism, ancestor worship and war. Because of Kaiadas' political activities, the band published a statement, according to which they were a pure black metal and thus an apolitical band; each member has the right to his own opinion, which is why his or her political activity is a personal decision and is respected as such. The band denied a political agenda and would take legal action against false allegations.
