Legion of Doom is one of the oldest and most famous Greek NSBM bands. Several members are or were active in political contexts, including the Chrysi Avgi party .

history

The band was founded in 1990 by Daimon. In 1991 their first demo, Doom , was released, followed by two split releases and the demo Ancient Knowledge . The first official release is the demo The Desecration ;; at the time of its release, 1994, Demogorgon joined the band. The title Ancient Knowledge , published on the Split Passage Through ... The Circle , also appeared on the compilation -LP Metal Under Greece .

In 1995 Soundphaze International Records released the band's debut, Kingdom of Endless Darkness, together with the Greek label Molon Lave . Musically, the band was based on Norwegian Black Metal, which they saw as true Black Metal. The artwork included a swastika in connection with the seal of the Baphomet and the slogan: "... Whoever So-Called Christian Is a Fucking Jew ...". Together with statements by the band and an interview with the Greek Metal Hammer , this led to a boycott of the band; so the label and mail orderer, like Osmose Productions , refused to distribute the album. The band secured 100 copies of the album before the rest were destroyed and the album was re-released in a censored version; She later republished it in its original version and included the 1995 Metal Hammer interview with the booklet .

The second album For Those of the Blood was released in 1997 on Hypervorea, the label of Magus Wampyr Daoloth , who also produced it. The German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche is quoted several times in the booklet ; Daimon names Nietzsche as a great influence on his anti-Christian views, he also names the ancient Greek culture as a great influence that also flows into music and texts. The band always used guest drummers for their recordings until Aithir (Nikos Konstadinou) became the first permanent drummer in 1998. With him, the band recorded new songs, but they were never completed or published; Daimon announced however to use the material in a future publication. Aithir also played with The Shadow Order, Invocation, Naer Mataron (on the second album Skotos Aenaon ), Kaiadas , Ichor, Stosstrupp, Gauntlet's Sword and Der Stürmer (as a guest drummer for Mors Triumphalis on The Night and the Fog Part II - Hammer of National Socialist Black Metal ), heads the Avalon Productions and Nykta labels and is active in the Chrysi Avgi party.

To mark their tenth anniversary, the band released A Decade of Darkness and Blood in 2000 , which included the first albums that were hard to find at the time.

After a few years of absence, Astraios came back in 2004 to the band, which had since dissolved and reunited in 2004. Astraios had recorded the synthesizers and composed the instrumental music on Kingdom of Endless Darkness and For Those of the Blood , but was not performed. In the same year published Legion of Doom with the EP Chariots of Thunder first time new material that the band released just as how in 2005 her third album God Is Dead , the more varied and melodic precipitated as the previous material that more closely Burzum and Darkthrone ajar was.

In 2008 Legion of Doom released the album The Horned Made Flesh and the split single Grief of the Universe / Spinning Galaxies with the Ukrainian band Hate Forest . On this album, too, the band shows their convictions by limiting the hardcore edition to 88 copies , adding the black sun and displaying the Reich war flag on the back cover ; in the leaflet there are pictures of a man with a machine gun , a balaclava and a sweater with the band's logo in front of this flag. The regular version of the album dispenses with corresponding symbols.

In 2012 the album The Summoning of Shadows was released .
