Ancient ( Engl ., Old ') is a black metal band, which in Norway was established, but now of Italy will continue from.

history

The band was founded in 1992 in Bergen as a solo project by Aphazel, who turned it into a regular band. Together with singer and drummer Grimm he recorded the demo Eerily Howling Winds in 1993 and the EP Det glemte riket in the following year . This was re-released in 2000 on the split album True Kings of Norway together with the also out of print EPs by the bands Emperor , Immortal , Dimmu Borgir and Arcturus . With the EP, the band caught the attention of the labels Listenable Records and Osmose Productions , who released their debut album Svartalvheim (north: ' Schwarzalbenheim ') that same year .

After the band had released the Trolltaar EP in 1995 and Grimm left, Aphazel moved to the USA and put together a completely new band, including Lord Kaiaphas, who previously worked under the pseudonym Lord Vlad Luciferian with the band Grand Belial's Key played, heard; after his exit, the band appeared openly anti-Semitic from the album Mocking the Philanthropist . The following year the band signed with Metal Blade Records , which, like their video clips, which were played on MTV, earned them commercial allegations, and released the album The Cainian Chronicle , which was followed by a European tour. Although Brian Slagel of Metal Blade said he would never sign " white power bands" and that later member Dhilorz worked with Ad Hominem , the band is still under contract there.

After a few line-up changes, the band recorded the album Mad Grandiose Bloodfiends in 1997 , on which the current keyboardist Jesus Christ! participated and went on a world tour. After this, Aphazel moved to Italy after recruiting singer Deadly Kristin, who became his girlfriend. However, she herself only had “a role to fill in” and not enough artistic freedom, and many concerts were played without her. Aphazel also did not ask her if she wanted to join, but ordered her to do so. Because of this, she moved to Sweden in 2003 and left the band. "

In 1999 the album The Halls of Eternity was released, which had a heavier sound and on which Aphazel acted as a singer. Dhilorz, who is now part of the live line-up of Ad Hominem , also played the bass for the first time. Then the band toured again, also for the first time through Scandinavia. In 2000 Ancient played at the Wacken Open Air .

In 2001 the EP God Loves the Dead was released, which included the title track remixes, an Iron Maiden cover version and two video clips on the CD version. In the same year, the album Proxima Centauri came out, which was followed by a longer tour. The biography on the official website claims that Ancient was the first foreign black metal band to play in Israel on this tour, but the bands Rotting Christ , Tiamat , Aeba and Ancient Rites played there before Ancient. In 2004 the album Night Visit was released .
