Giorgos Zanias

Giorgos P. Zanias ( Greek Γιώργος Π. Ζανιάς , also Georgios P. Zanias , George P. Zanias ; born August 16, 1955 in Orchomenos ) is a Greek economist. He was finance minister in the Pikrammenos cabinet .

Career

Zanias studied at the Athens University of Economics and the University of Reading , where he graduated in 1979 with a Diploma and in 1980 with a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics . He received his PhD from Oxford University in 1983 . From 1983 to 1986 he was a lecturer at Oxford University and from 1987 to 1991 assistant professor at the University of Crete . From 1991 to 1995 Zanias was Associate Professor at the Athens Agricultural University and from 1995 to 2004 at the Athens University of Economics. At the same time he was President and Scientific Director of the Center for Planning and Finance (KEPE) from 1998 to 2001 and Secretary General of the Greek Ministry of Economy and Finance from 2001 to 2004. Most recently, Zanias was Full Professor of Finance and Head of the Department of International and European Economic Studies at the Athens University of Economics.

His research interests are applied econometrics , rural development and international development .

Zanias worked as an expert for the European Commission , the World Bank and the UN . He also wrote columns for To Vima Sunday .
