Panagiotis Pikrammenos

Panagiotis Pikrammenos ( Greek Παναγιώτης Πικραμμένος Panagiótis Pikraménos ; born July 26, 1945 in Athens ) is a Greek lawyer and politician. From May 16, 2012 to June 20, 2012, he was the Greek Prime Minister of a transitional government whose main task was to hold the parliamentary elections on June 17, 2012 , from which Andonis Samaras emerged as the new Prime Minister.

In July 2019, Pikrammenos was accepted into the newly formed Mitsotakis cabinet under the newly elected Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis , as his deputy .

Life

Pikrammenos attended the German School in Athens . He then studied law at the University of Athens , practiced as a lawyer in Athens and London and completed postgraduate studies in public law at the University of Paris II . He is considered an expert in maritime law.

His judicial career began in June 1976 as a consultant at the State Council , the highest administrative court. In 1978 he was appointed judge at the State Council. From 1992 to 1993 he worked in the Prime Minister's Office as a public law advisor. In 1998/99 he completed courses in European law at the University of Paris II as part of an advanced training course . In 2007 he was appointed Vice President and in 2009 President of the State Council. Part-time he was director general of the National Judges Academy from 2005 to 2010. He worked on several committees involved in the legislative process.

Prime Minister of a transitional government

On May 16, 2012, Pikrammenos was sworn in as Prime Minister after all attempts by the party leaders and President Papoulias to form a majority government after the May 6, 2012 election had failed . Since the parties could not agree on a "political" prime minister for a transitional government until new elections, the state president had to instruct one of the highest judges in the country to form a transitional government to hold new elections according to Article 37, Paragraph 3 of the Greek Constitution . After the parliamentary elections on June 17, 2012 , a government was formed from Nea Dimokratia , PASOK and the Democratic Left with Andonis Samaras as the new Prime Minister.

Just a few days after his replacement as Prime Minister, Pikrammenos retired as a judge on June 30, 2012.

Trivia

Pikrammenos has waived his salary as Prime Minister.
