The German School Athens (DSA) is an excellent German school abroad . The German School Athens was founded in 1896 by the well-known archaeologist Wilhelm Dörpfeld . In the sense of an encounter school and with the perspective of a modern and contemporary education, approx. 1123 pupils are taught by German and Greek teachers at the DSA.
Structure and organization
The school, located in the suburb of Marousi , is privately owned, the school is run by the German School Association Athens. It consists of a German department with full primary and secondary education and a Greek department with a Gymnásio and a Lýkio .
The German department concludes with the school leaving examination after the 12th grade, whereby the school guidelines from Thuringia are decisive.
After the 12th year of school, the students in the Greek section receive the Greek secondary school leaving certificate. In addition, the students also receive the Abitur after taking a supplementary examination . For the purpose of language acquisition, some subjects in the Greek department are taught in German, but the curricula are similar to those of regular Greek schools.
At the moment, however, the school is in a transition phase in which the separation of the departments is abolished and the now uniform school curriculum is being re -aligned to the German International Abitur examination (DIAP) - taking into account very divergent language skills among the students with the range of different language profiles. The acquisition of the Apolytirion, if desired, will still be possible. The first high school graduates to pass a DIAP will leave school in 2020/21.
As at other German schools abroad, part of the teaching staff is recruited from Germany for a limited period.
Greek-German sports and cultural association
The DSA endeavors to make a contribution to lifelong learning and adult education. The Greek-German Sports and Culture Association (former name: Small Adult Education Center of the DSA ), which sees itself as an international center for encounter, further education and sport, offers a diverse and multilingual course program in languages, IT, music, Dance, sports and arts. This offer is aimed at both students and parents of the DSA, as well as alumni and those interested in school.
Traditions and Activities
The DSA annually organizes a summer festival , an Oktoberfest and a Christmas bazaar . In addition, an annual sporting competition between the DSA and the German Evangelical High School in Cairo (DEO) is held in Cairo , Egypt . The students compete in the disciplines of swimming , athletics and either basketball , soccer or volleyball . In addition, one team flies to the city of the other every year.
Awards
- In 2011, the DSA received the award for Excellent German School Abroad after successfully completing a federal-state inspection . The seal of approval signed by the then Federal President Christian Wulff was given to the DSA by the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Athens, Dr. Roland Wegener, presented.
