Gioseffo Catrufo

Gioseffo Catrufo (born April 19, 1771 in Naples , † August 19, 1851 in London ) was an Italian singer , composer and music teacher .

He studied at the Conservatory de la Pieta dei Turchini. In 1791 he wrote his first two operas. At the beginning of the war he enlisted in the French army, but in 1799 he wrote an opera and a "Dixit" for choir and orchestra. In 1804 he left the army and went to Genoa, where he composed for churches and theaters. In 1810 he only moved to Paris in order to settle in London in 1835, where he worked, among other things, as a music teacher and singing teacher. He wrote a number of comic operas and church music. Margarethe Stockhausen was one of his students .
