Oleh Ihorowytsch Machnizkyj ( Ukrainian Олег Ігорович Махніцький ; born March 15, 1970 in Lviv ) is a Ukrainian lawyer and politician. He belongs to the Svoboda party .

From February 24 to June 18, 2014, Makhnitskyi was the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

biography

Oleh Machnitskyj began his professional career in 1988 as a worker in the “Mayak” textile factory in Lviv. Since 1990 he has worked as an organizer of tourist trips for a local history society. In 1996, he completed an internship with the prosecutor of the Lviv Oblast and closed in the same year with a degree in Law at the Ivan Franko University on.

From 1997 to 1998 he worked as an investigator in the Lviv district of Franko Rajon . From 1998 to 1999 he worked for the Investigation Department of the Lviv Oblast Public Prosecutor's Office. From 1999 to 2001 he worked as a lawyer for the private security service "Skorpyon". In 2003 he worked as an attorney for the law firm "Ossadtschyjyj y partner". In November 2003 he founded the law firm Walko y Machnyzkyj. From 2006 to 2012 he was a member of the All-Ukrainian Association "Svoboda", a member of the Lviv City Council.

In the parliamentary elections in Ukraine in 2012 he was number 21 in the Svoboda party and was elected as a member of the Verkhovna Rada , where he was appointed deputy head of the parliamentary committee on the rule of law.

On February 24, 2014, by decree of the interim President Oleksandr Turchynov, he was appointed acting General Prosecutor of Ukraine to succeed Viktor Pschonka . On March 5, Machnitskyj opened criminal proceedings against the commander of the Black Sea Fleet, Alexander Viktorovich Vitko . On March 27, Makhnitskyj was declared an "undesirable person" by the authorities of the Republic of Crimea . On June 18, he was dismissed from office by decree of the Ukrainian President . His successor was Vitaly Jarema . By another decree he was appointed advisor to President Petro Poroshenko . On February 5, 2015, he was dismissed from his position as adviser to the President.

Machnitskyj is married and has one daughter.
