Giovan Battista Buzzi-Cantone

Giovan Battista Buzzi-Cantone (born February 19, 1825 in Gera Lario , † December 17, 1898 in Berlin ) was a Swiss educator and editor.

Life

Giovan Battista Buzzi-Cantone was born in Gera Lario near Como in Italy to Antonio Buzzi-Cantone.

He served as a soldier under Giuseppe Garibaldi , in 1849 he fled to the canton of Ticino . There he taught at the secondary school in Curio from 1850 to 1861 and then taught literature at the grammar school in Lugano. After the conservatives took power, he lost his job in 1877 and in the following years worked at various private schools in Italy and Lugano.

In 1892 he became rector of the municipal schools in Lugano. Giovan Battista Buzzi-Cantone was married to Maddalena, daughter of Carlo Avanzini from Curio . The names of their children are known:

  • Alfredo Buzzi-Cantone (born August 3, 1854 in Curio, † October 31, 1892 in Lugano), physician; married to Maria Bonardi from Carlazzo
  • Fausto Buzzi-Cantone (born May 21, 1858 in Curio, † January 6, 1907 in Novaggio ), physician and politician; married to Marta Holtzendorff

Writing

Giovan Battista Buzzi-Cantone was the author of patriotic poems and various short stories . He also published articles in the liberal newspaper Il Giovane Ticino and was editor of the Educatore della Svizzera italiana from 1886 to 1896 .
