Giovan Battista Carpi (born November 16, 1927 in Genoa ; † March 8, 1999 there ) was one of the most important Italian cartoonists and authors. As one of the first draftsmen he drew both the ducks and stories from the mouse universe in the same quality. Carpi is considered one of the most important cartoonists of Disney parodies, and he was also instrumental in the invention of the character Phantomias .

Live and act

He made his first drawings as early as 1945 after receiving training as a visual artist from the painter Giacomo Picollo . In 1953 he was hired by Disney , where he initially worked with Giulio Chierchini . There he began his parodies, including on Victor Hugo's Die Elenden . Then in the 1960s he began to turn to the mouse universe. In 1969 he drew the first story with Phantomias, but after that he only used this character very rarely.

From the 1970s onwards, things got quiet around him, only in the 1980s he was able to bring a few more successful stories onto the market.
