Giovanni Battista Carlone (architect)

Giovanni Battista Carlone (* around 1580/1590; † December 28, 1645 in Vienna ) from Rovio was a Swiss-Italian builder and architect . He should not be confused with the plasterer and sculptor of the same name, Giovanni Battista Carlone .

biography

Carlone worked for Prince Karl von Lichtenstein from 1614 and was the imperial court architect of Ferdinand II from 1620 to 1637. Large parts of the Vienna Hofburg can be traced back to his plans; he was responsible for the building supervision during the renovation of Pressburg Castle . From 1634 until his death he was the reconstruction of the Klosterneuburg Abbey deals
