Giovanni Carminucci

Giovanni Carminucci (born November 14, 1939 in San Benedetto del Tronto , † February 16, 2007 in Rome ) was an Italian gymnast . He won two Olympic medals in 1960.

Career

Giovanni Carminucci started gymnastics in 1949. From 1959 to 1971 he was among the best in Europe. At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 he was second on the parallel bars behind Boris Schachlin from the Soviet team. In the team competition in Rome, he won the bronze medal behind Japan and the Soviet Union. His older brother Pasquale was in this Italian team .

In 1961 Carminucci became European horse jumping champion ahead of his compatriot Franco Menichelli . On parallel bars, Giovanni Carminucci was European champion in 1963 and 1971. In 1963 he defeated Boris Schachlin. In 1971, Mikhail Voronin , Nikolai Andrianow and Klaus Köste were all in second place.

In 1961, 1967, 1968 and 1970 Carminucci was the Italian champion in the twelve fight.
