Giovanni Sforza (born July 5, 1466 in Pesaro ; † July 27, 1510 ibid) was vicar of Chiesa and from 1483 to 1500 and again from 1503 to 1510 city lord of Pesaro.

Life

Giovanni Sforza was the illegitimate son of Costanzo I. Sforza (1447–1483) and his lover Fiora Boni. His father and grandfather Alessandro Sforza (1409–1473) were both lords of Pesaro. After his father's death in 1483, his stepmother ruled for him.

Giovanni married Maddalena Gonzaga (* 1472 in Mantua; † January 8, 1490 in Pesaro), the daughter of Federico I Gonzaga , Margrave of Mantua , and his wife Margherita of Bavaria on October 27, 1489 . To celebrate the occasion, the Pesaro Jewish community performed the story of Judith and Holofernes at its own expense .

In his second marriage, he married Lucrezia Borgia on June 12, 1493 (born August 14, 1480 in Rome , † June 24, 1519 in Ferrara ), the daughter of Pope Alexander VI. and sister of Cesare Borgia . On December 20, 1497, this marriage was divorced because of his alleged impotence . An angry Giovanni retaliated by claiming that his marriage had only been dissolved so that the Pope and Cesare could indulge in incest with Lucrezia.

Giovanni was third married to Ginevra Tiepolo in 1502. With her he got the son and heir Giovanni Maria Sforza (also mentioned in other sources as Giuseppe Maria ), called Costanzo II (born February 24, 1510 in Gradara ; † August 5, 1512). From 1510 to 1512 he was Vicar of Chiesa and Lord of Pesaro. Giovanni also had the illegitimate daughter Isabella (* 1503; † 1561), whom he legitimized and who later married Cipriano del Nero, Barone di Porcigliano.
