Margaret of Bavaria, Margravine of Mantua

Margaret of Bavaria (born January 1, 1442 in Munich , † October 14, 1479 in Mantua ) was a princess of Bavaria-Munich and by marriage Margravine of Mantua .

Life

Margarete was the eldest daughter of Duke Albrecht the Pious of Bavaria (1401–1460) from his marriage to Anna (1420–1474), daughter of Duke Erich I of Braunschweig-Grubenhagen .

She married Margrave Federico I Gonzaga of Mantua (1441-1484) on May 10, 1463 in Mantua , whom she loved, valued and praised for his moral qualities despite his physical deformity - he had a humpback. The marital union deepened the trade between the two principalities. The court in Mantua was dominated by Margarete's mother-in-law Barbara, and Margarete was considered tactful enough to bow to this circumstance. Margarete died before her mother-in-law as well as her husband and was buried in St. Andrew's Church in Mantua.

progeny

Margarete had the following offspring from her marriage:
