Giovanni Volta

Giovanni Volta (born March 14, 1928 in Gazoldo degli Ippoliti , Mantua Province , Italy , † February 4, 2012 in Mantua ) was an Italian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Pavia .

Life

Giovanni Volta was ordained a priest on June 29, 1952 . He was Regens of the Diocesan Seminary of Mantua and from 1977 to 1986 professor and chaplain at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Pavia on April 2, 1986 . The Bishop of Mantua , Carlo Ferrari , ordained him episcopal on May 25th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Antonio Giuseppe Angioni , Bishop Emeritus of Pavia, and Giuseppe Amari , Bishop of Verona .

He was President of the Commission for Justice and Peace of the Italian Bishops' Conference and has played a key role in politics.

He was also the Grand Prior of the Lieutenancy Italia Settentrionale of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem.

On December 1, 2003, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
