Roman Antonio Deheza

Román Antonio Deheza (born February 27, 1791 in Córdoba , † August 30, 1872 in Valparaíso ) was an Argentine general and politician.

Deheza studied at the Collegio de Monserrat . In 1810 he joined the Ejército del Norte under General Antonio González Balcarce as a volunteer and took part in the battles of Cotagaita, Suipacha and Huaqui. In 1813 he fought in the Chilean army under General Juan Gregorio de Las Heras in the battles of Cucha Cucha and Membrillar. Under Bernardo O'Higgins , he took part in the rank of captain at the Battle of Rancagua in 1814.

After participating in the battles of Chacabuco, Curapaligüe, Gavilán and Maipú and defending Lima, he was appointed Coronel Mayor by José M. Paz . In 1838 he was elected governor of the province of Santiago del Estero . Deheza emigrated to Bolivia during the dictatorship of Juan Manuel de Rosas . In 1845 he joined General Paz's troops against de Rosa. After its failure, he emigrated to Paraguay. In 1855 he was appointed to the Army General Staff of the Province of Buenos Aires in absentia. Deheza withdrew into private life and settled first in Santigo de Chile, later in Valparaíso, where he died in 1872. In the Argentine province of Cordoba, a city was named after him General Deheza .
