Giralang is part of the Belconnen district of the Australian capital Canberra with 3,316 inhabitants (as of 2016). The district with the zip code of 2617 was named after the name for stars in the language of the Wiradjuri Aborigines . The streets are named after the Aboriginal words for the constellations in the southern hemisphere.

Giralang borders the other suburbs of Kaleen , Lawson and McKellar. There is a primary school with sports grounds in the suburb. Giralang is bounded by Baldwin Drive, William Slim Drive and the Barton Highway .
