The neighboring suburbs are Lyneham, Giralang , Lawson and Bruce. Kaleen is bordered by both Baldwin Drive and Ginninderra Drive. There are several sports fields where sports such as soccer, cricket and rugby are played. What is unusual for a part of Canberra is the fact that there are two small shopping centers in Kaleen, both of which are on the main street, Maribyrnong Avenue. There is also a larger shopping center not far from the Giralang border on Georgina Crescent, which is surrounded on three sides by religious buildings, including a Greek Orthodox, a Coptic and an Anglican church, St. Simons Kaleen. The suburb also has two government-run elementary schools, Maribyrnong Primary School and Kaleen Primary School. There is also the Kaleen High School on Baldwin Drive.
As is mostly the case in Canberra, there is a network of well-maintained bike paths . The most important one runs under Ginninderra Drive and through the middle of the district in a north-south direction to the neighboring Giralang district.
