Girolamo Muziano
Girolamo Muziano , called Le Mutien (* 1528 in Acquafredda , † 1592 in Rome ) was an Italian painter .
Life
Muziano studied in Brescia with Romanino and in Venice , where he was influenced by Titian . He visited Rome around 1548 and received some major commissions with the help of Michelangelo . Muziano reached the climax of his career under Pope Gregory XIII. who appointed him inspector of works of art in the Vatican . His masterpiece is “The Resurrection of Saint Lazarus”, which he originally painted for the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome. Muziano combined a talent for the representation of figures with a sense of landscapes, which he made use of when designing his home environment in Brescia. The grisaille frescoes in the Santa Maria sopra Minerva in Rome also come from his hand . He was one of the founders of the Accademia di San Luca .
