Gisela Klein (born January 28, 1873 in Vienna , † June 13, 1919 in Prague ) was an Austrian actress.

Life

Gisela Klein, the daughter of a Jewish businessman, started out as an actress at the city theater in Iglau . By Angelo Neumann was on the recommendation of the journalist Albert Kauder (1854-1912) at the German National Theater engaged in Prague. Her debut was as Ludovika in the play "Das Heiratsnest" by Gustav Davis .

Klein played character figures from the start. She stayed at this theater under Heinrich Teweles . By the 25th stage anniversary in 1918, she had appeared on stage 2,850 times. Her most famous appearances include her mother Wolff in "Der Biberpelz" by Gerhart Hauptmann . She played this piece from 1899 to 1918, comparing her performance with that of Else Lehmann .

She also played the Katharina tie in the love affair of Arthur Schnitzler . Other roles were the mother in Ferenc Molnár's comedy “Der Gardeoffizier” or the guard in “Music” by Frank Wedekind . As a performer of comic characters, she was one of the most notable German-speaking actresses in Prague in her day.

After her death, Hermine Medelsky , who was both personally and artistically close to her, took over her repertoire.
