Gustav Davis

Gustav Davis (born March 3, 1856 in Pressburg ; † August 21, 1951 at Gut Hohenlehen , Hollenstein an der Ybbs ) was an Austrian journalist and newspaper editor.

Davis began an officer career, but then became a journalist, publisher and founder of the Kronenzeitung in 1902 and wrote under the pseudonym G. Tannhofer. Within a few years the paper reached the highest circulation of the old kuk monarchy . In 1938 Davis had to resign from the management of the Kronenzeitung.

Davis also wrote plays such as Der Herrgott vom Grund or Das Heiratsnest ; His comedy Katakomben (also: Protektionskind ), a star role by Karl Skraup , became famous . He also wrote libretti, for example for the operettas Waldmeister and Jabuka composed by Johann Strauss (son) .
