Gisela Peschke , née Bockler (born January 23, 1942 in Wurzen , † October 10, 1993 in Stralsund ) was a German painter and set designer.

Life

After completing secondary school, Gisela Peschke began an apprenticeship as a gardener and successfully completed her professional training three years later. She then moved to the theater, studying stage painting at the Leipzig College of Applied Arts and stage design at the Dresden University of Fine Arts . After completing her studies in 1974, the center of her life moved from Dresden to Stralsund . Hiddensee , the island of Rügen and Stralsund remained a central theme of her artistic work until her death in 1993. Her signature has never changed in her life and expresses the maiden name “Gisela Bockler” with “GB”. After Elisabeth Büchsel, Gisela Peschke is the most important Hiddensee painter of the 20th century. In the years up to her death she was considered the most important painter on Hiddensee. Gisela Peschke is buried in the island cemetery of Hiddensee near the island church of Hiddensee .

The works that have emerged over the course of 30 years of artistic creation are estimated at a total of around 800 and are mostly in private hands. Her sons Christian Peschke and Johannes Peschke endeavor to process and catalog their mother's artistic estate. They have been using an internet portal for this purpose since 2008.
