Gitschital
The Gitschital (also: Gitschental ) is a valley west of the Reuss plain in the Swiss canton of Uri below the Gitschen mountain range .
geography
The Gitschital is half in the communities of Seedorf and Attinghausen . The Palanggenbach , after which the valley was also called Palanggental , forms the municipal boundary from the source area below the Brunnistock ( 2952 m above sea level ); the left half of the valley belongs to Seedorf, the right side of the narrow valley lies in the municipality of Attinghausen. Towards the northwest, the valley is closed off by the steep limestone massif of the Brunnistock, Gitschenhöreli, Rot Gitschen and Gitschen, and on the south side by the short flysch mountain ledge, which is called the ridge in the upper area and the lower Gibelstöck .
In the narrow and steep valley, the Palanggenbach flows in a straight line to the northeast; only a few small side streams drain the mountain flanks in the upper valley area, such as the Sulzbach in the Witlauwi area and the Stäuberbach above the Driangel basin . The valley exit above Seedorf is still around 100 meters above the valley floor on the Reuss , because the Palanggenbach has accumulated a mighty fan of rubble after the last Ice Age glaciation , which originally extended to Lake Lucerne .
economy
In the valley there are several alpine areas at around 1,300 to 1,400 meters above sea level, such as the alp in Gitschitaler Bode , the alp Gross Pfaffen , the Schirpfenegg , the Hohnegg , the Gitschenberg, accessible by cable car, and the alp Seewli on the south-eastern ridge.
A road built between 1980 and 1999 with a 300 meter long tunnel under the ravine of the Stäuberbach leads from Seedorf via Rütli into the valley, which is accessible with a mountain bike route. The road to Gezig also leads through a tunnel. While the mountain massif is quite impassable in the west, a hiking trail leads from the Gitschital over the Alp Grat into the neighboring valley Waldnacht and to the mountain crossing of the Surenenpass , which leads to Engelberg .
During floods, the Palanggenbach carries a lot of coarse rock with it from the scree slopes in the valley, which is collected in a strong debris collector in the gorge.
