Giulio Papi

Giulio Papi (* 1965 ) is an Italian-Swiss watchmaker of complicated wristwatches and winner of the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève .

Life

After training as a watchmaker as a rhabilleur , he first worked at Audemars Piguet from 1984 before founding Manufacture d'Horlogerie Renaud et Papi SA in Le Locle in 1986 together with Dominique Renaud , which specialized as a supplier in the construction of complex wristwatch movements among others Audemars Piguet , A. Lange & Söhne , IWC , Jaeger-LeCoultre , Ulysse Nardin , Christophe Claret and Richard Mille . In 1989 Robert Greubel joined with a ten percent stake.

In 1989 Papi founded RPC together with Dominique Renaud and Christophe Claret , from which Renaud and Papi left in 1993.

In 1992 Audemars Piguet acquired 52% of the shares in Manufacture d'Horlogerie Renaud et Papi SA and the company was renamed Audemars Piguet (Renaud et Papi) SA and expanded to become the main development department. Renaud and Papi each retained 21.6% and Robert Greubel 4.8% of the company shares. After Renaud had sold his shares in the company to Audemars Piguet in 1999, Giulio Papi was now co-partner with 20% and Fabrice Deschannel with 1.6%.

Awards

  • Giulio Papi won the 2008 Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève as “best watchmaker”.
