Giyani is a city in the Limpopo province of South Africa . It is the administrative seat of the Greater Giyani municipality in the Mopani district . In 2011 it had 25,954 inhabitants. It was also the capital of what was then the homeland of Gazankulu .
Giyani is relatively young and was founded by the South African apartheid government as the capital of Gazankulu. The city is mainly inhabited by Tsonga .
