The Gjeitafjell (also known as Mount Banfield ) is at 2140 m the highest point of the Hansenfjella in the East Antarctic Kempland . It rises 5 km east of the Nunatak Brusen .
Norwegian cartographers, who also named it, mapped the survey using aerial photographs taken during the Lars Christensen Expedition in 1936/37 . A new mapping was carried out using aerial photographs taken by the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions . The name given by the Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) is named after Geoffrey A. Banfield of the Royal Australian Air Force , who was stationed at Mawson Station between 1958 and 1959 .
