On the occasion of the “300 years Spiegelberg” anniversary in 2005, a glass exhibition was opened in the town hall, which presented the history of the glassworks in the Swabian-Franconian Forest. Due to the great response, the exhibition was further developed and permanently set up as a glass museum.

The Spiegelberg municipality is responsible for the museum. The place Spiegelberg was founded in 1705 as Spiegelhütte. A branch of this glassworks was the Neuhütte in Joachimstal , today the municipality of Wüstenrot , district of Heilbronn .

concept

The thematic focus of the museum is the history of forest glass production in the Swabian-Franconian Forest. From the 15th to the 19th century there were 25 glassworks in the Löwensteiner Mountains , the Mainhardter Forest and the Welzheimer Forest . Original finds from old glassworks are shown - complete glasses as well as fragments, which are supplemented by replicas . Glass production is explained and illustrated using the model of a glass furnace. Special features of the exhibition are an original mirror from the Spiegelberg factory and chevron pearls that were found in a neighboring glassworks. The exhibition also shows the whole variety of glass: lithyalin, peasant silver , millefiori and much more. In addition, there are special exhibitions with topics that change every year.

From April 30, 2017 to December 31, 2017, the Spiegelberg Glass Museum presented “Brilliant Pieces” in the 2017 special exhibition, a comprehensive exhibition of the crystal glass manufacturer Joh. Oertel & Co. from 1869 to the present day.
