Glauco Pellegrini (born January 14, 1919 in Siena , † July 21, 1991 in Rome ) was an Italian film director and screenwriter .

Life

Pellegrini, who comes from a Venetian family to which his family soon returned after emigrating to Tuscany around the time of his birth , began his working life as a journalist, but also wrote for the radio and the stage. Through his friendship with Francesco Pasinetti he came to film; he assisted him with his documentaries and made numerous of these films himself for a decade from 1942, often on art-historical subjects (including Venezia insorge , Prigionieri del golgo , Arquà Petrarca , L'esperienza del cubismo , Lo scultore Manzù , Dove nasce il Piave ), some of which have been awarded.

From 1944 on, Pellegrini also wrote screenplays for films by other directors, the first of them at the time of the fascist republic of Salò . In 1951 he made his debut as a director with Ombre sul Canale Grande ; which he staged in dramatic black and white and with contrasting post-war images and impressions from his favorite city. After some less significant work, in 1961 he presented the DEFA production Italian Capriccio, a staging of Carlo Goldoni's life that was exclusively realized in the studio . In Italy, however, the film was rarely shown. After that, Pellegrini switched to theatrical productions and brought numerous operas to the stage until 1975, while he continued to work in the documentary field.

Between 1962 and 1967 he also worked for television and was responsible for programs such as "Il bel canto", "Il secolo d'oro delle lirica italiana" or "Colonna sonora", with which he accompanied his musical work. In 1982 he never contributed to a feature film when he contributed part of the suitcase film Il vento e l'amore , which was directed by his students at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia , where he taught directing. In addition, Pellegrini was a member of the culture committee of the PCI , co-founder of the ANAC and an employee of several film magazines and lexicons.
