Parable of the rich grain farmer

The parable of the rich grain farmer is a parable of Jesus , which is a special asset in the Gospel according to Luke .
text
The parable in the Luther translation (revised version from 1984):
“And he told them a parable, saying, There was a rich man whose field was well borne. And he thought to himself and said: What should I do? I have nowhere to go to gather my fruit. And said, I will do this: I will demolish my barns and build larger ones, and I will gather in them all my grain and my provisions and will say to my soul: Dear soul, you have a great supply for many years; now have rest, eat, drink and have good courage! But God said to him: You fool! This night your soul will be demanded of you; and then who will own what you have amassed? This is the case with those who collect treasures and are not rich with God. "
interpretation
The parable is a cautionary story in which the grain farmer is to be understood as a large landowner . Even if his behavior is generally sensible at first, it is also short-sighted again. Already in the Old Testament a comparable behavior is presented as typical for a fool (cf. eg Ps 39,5–7 LU or Hi 5,3–5 LU ). In the face of the kingdom of God that will begin with the coming of Jesus Christ, such behavior is even more foolish. Rather, a person would gain “wealth with God” by sharing his earthly possessions with other people.
