Glen Bredon

Glen Eugene Bredon (born August 24, 1932 in Fresno , California, † May 8, 2000 ) was an American mathematician who studied topology .

Bredon studied at Stanford University with a bachelor's degree in 1954 and at Harvard University with a master's degree in 1955. In 1958 he received his doctorate from Harvard ( Some theorems on transformation groups ). From 1960 he was assistant professor and later professor at the University of California, Berkeley and from 1969 at Rutgers University , where he retired in 1993. In 1965 he received a research grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation ( Sloan Research Fellowship ).

From 1958 to 1960 and 1966/67 he was at the Institute for Advanced Study .

The Bredon cohomology of topological spaces under the influence of a topological group is named after him.

In the late 1980s he wrote the DOS.MASTER program for Apple II computers. He is also the author of the Merlin (an assembler) and ProSel programs for Apple computers.

He had been married to the folk singer since 1963 and studied mathematician Anne Bredon (* 1930, nee Loeb) and had two children with her. She is the author of the song Babe, I'm gonna leave you , performed by Joan Baez and Led Zeppelin , among others .
