Glenarm Castle

Glenarm Castle is a castle in the village of Glenarm in County Antrim, Northern Ireland . It is the former seat of the Earls of Antrim .

A castle had been in Glenarm since the 13th century and it stood on one of the oldest estates in Northern Ireland.

The current castle was built by Sir Randal MacDonnell, 1st Earl of Antrim , in 1636. It currently belongs to Randal MacDonnell, Viscount Dunluce , son of Alexander MacDonnell, 9th Earl of Antrim .

Gardens and cultural events

The castle's enclosed garden, the Glenarm Walled Garden , is open to the public between May and September and hosts many events. Every year in July there are z. B. the world famous Highland Games . The Dalriada Festival also takes place in the castle and in the neighboring village. Sports and music events as well as fine dishes from Scotland and Ireland are offered there. Cultural events organized by the Ulster Scots are also part of it. As part of the Dalriada Festival, Glenarm Castle has also hosted large open-air concerts since 2012. Groups and artists such as General Fiasco , The Priests , Duke Special , Ronan Keating , Sharon Corr , Brian Houston , David Phelps , etc.

Summer Madness , Ireland's largest Christian festival, moved from Kings Hall in Belfast to Glenarm Castle in 2012 . In future it will take place annually in Glenarm Castle.
