Glenn Reeves

Glenn Reeves (born December 29, 1932 in Shamrock , Texas , † 1999 ) was an American rockabilly singer.

Life

As a child, Glenn Reeves sang in the church choir . He also played the trumpet . He formed his first band while he was still in high school. After leaving school, he began studying at the University of Houston . But when the Korean War broke out, Reeves was drafted into the Marines . After the war, he found a job as a radio host at KCTX in Childless , Texas. He later also worked in Florida .

Reeves received his first recording contract in 1955 with TNT Records. After a few unsuccessful singles, he switched to Republic Records, where he recorded a demo version of Heartbreak Hotel . The title was still completely unknown at the time and was not to become a hit with Elvis Presley until 1956 . In June 1956 he recorded his most famous track, Rockin 'Country Style , with Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee . Hal Willis , also a rockabilly musician, played in the background band .

After Reeves moved to Decca Records , he retired from the music business and focused on his career as a radio host.

Glenn Reeves passed away in 1999.
