Rousseaceae are a family of plants in the order of the aster-like (Asterales). They have a disjoint area : on the one hand in New Zealand , in eastern Australia and in Papua New Guinea , on the other hand in Mauritius .

The mostly alternate, simple leaves have a serrated or serrated leaf margin.
The hermaphroditic flowers are radial symmetry . There are four to seven free stamens . The ovary is on top. The characteristics of the representatives of the subfamilies differ greatly from one another; see the descriptions in the following section Systematics.
Systematics with distribution and descriptions
The Rousseaceae together with the Campanulaceae form the basal group of the Asterales . Roussea simplex was formerly part of the Saxifragaceae .
The family Rousseaceae is divided into two subfamilies and contains four genera with about 13 species:

- Roussea simplex Sm .: It isnativeto Mauritius : It is an evergreen, woody climbing plant ( liana ) or small tree. The leaves are opposite. The large flowers are four-fold. The four petals are fused. There are berries formed.

- Subfamily Carpodetoideae J.Lundberg (Syn .: Carpodetaceae Fenzl , Abrophyllaceae Nakai ): There are areas in New Zealand , in eastern Australia and in Papua New Guinea . They are trees . The small flowers are four to six-fold. The ovary is made up of three to six carpels . Capsule fruits are mostly formed. It contains three genera with about twelve species:
