Glenury or Glenury Royal was a whiskey distillery in Stonehaven , Aberdeenshire , Scotland . It is attributed to the Highlands whiskey region.

history

The distillery was founded in Stonehaven in 1825 by Robert Barclay-Allardice, a member of the British Parliament . A little later, King George IV gave the distillery permission to use the addition Royal , a privilege that has only been granted to two other whiskey distilleries ( Royal Lochnagar and Royal Brackla ) to this day . In 1857 the distillery was acquired by William Ritchie from Glasgow . In 1938 it went to Associated Scottish Distillers and finally in 1953 to Distiller Company Ltd. (DCL), which is incorporated into Scottish Malt Distillers Ltd. (SMD) rose. In 1965 the system was overhauled and the number of stills increased to four. The last brandies were made in 1985 and the distillery then closed. The site was sold in 1992 and the buildings demolished in 1993. Today the streets Glenury Road and Glenury Crescent as well as a bus stop remind of the distillery, which was once in the immediate vicinity.

production

The water required came from the Cowie River . In the end, two coarse burn bubbles ( wash stills ) and two fine burn bubbles ( spirit stills ) were installed.

Bottlings

Glenury bottled many of its brandies as single malts. These whiskeys are still available today as part of the Rare Malt Series . Furthermore, there were a number of bottlings by independent bottlers.
