The Global Times ( Chinese 環球 時報 / 环球 时报 , Pinyin Huánqiú Shíbào ) is one of the two national English-language daily newspapers in China . It appears under the auspices of the Renmin Ribao , the organ of the Communist Party of China, and has the motto "Discover China, discover the world". The other, older English-language newspaper in China is China Daily .
In 1993, Huánqiú Shíbào环球 时报 was initially founded as a Chinese-language daily newspaper. The first English edition was published on April 20, 2009. Editor-in-chief Hu Xijin said he expects a loss of 20 million yuan in the first year of its release.
Several newspapers, including the Süddeutsche Zeitung , Der Standard and the Neue Zürcher Zeitung , characterize the Global Times as a “ propaganda sheet ”.
