Globalegrow (Chinese: 环球 易 购) is a listed e-commerce company from China with over 5000 employees. The company owns numerous brands and online shops that sell products on their own websites, Amazon , eBay and AliExpress . According to its own information, Globalegrow is one of the largest B2C companies that focus exclusively on the foreign market and do not sell directly in China. Globalegrow's best-known brands are Gearbest and Sammydress.
The company is steadily expanding its sphere of influence through strategic investments and acquisitions, trying to dominate the competition (AliExpress, Banggood ).
history
Globalegrow was founded on May 6, 2007 in Shenzhen, China. In 2014, a business combination with Baiyuan Trousers (百 圆 裤 业) and a subsequent initial public offering was carried out. The company structure was then changed in June 2015 and the parent company Global Top (Chinese: 跨境 通宝 电子商务 股份有限公司) was founded. At the time, Global Top was valued at CNY 33.4 billion (around $ 5 billion). Due to the rapid growth and many new employees, Globalegrow moved into a new, larger office building in Shenzhen.
The Wuzhouhui import and export project (Chinese: 五 州 会) was started there. This is offline trading on a franchise basis of imported products from countries such as Germany , Japan or Australia . According to official figures, US $ 232 million was invested in the project to open over 1,000 stores in China.
In the second quarter of 2017, a majority stake in the fast-growing competitor TomTop was acquired to strengthen the company's market share.
To attract more local customers, a German version of the website was made available a short time later at gearbest.com and subdomains in Spanish, Italian, Russian and French.
Globalegrow online shops
The company has over 10 different online shops with department stores in the United States of America , Europe , Asia and China .
criticism
Globalegrow's online shops are regularly criticized. The American Better Business Bureau gives the worst grade for Gearbest and Sammydress. Viral articles on BuzzFeed that criticized the poor quality of the clothing and copyright violations, as well as a criticism in the German computer magazine c't about import duty and tax evasion in Chinese online shops, including Gearbest, support the fact that the European Union is now actively trying to Find regulations for Chinese traders.
"Around 95 percent of Asian parcels are incorrectly or insufficiently declared. [...] The parcel is usually waved through, the customer doesn't have to sort out any paperwork, pay nothing - and happily order again. [...] It's cheap for customers and convenient, but also risky. "
