Bell in Néré

The bell in the church of St-Pierre in Néré , a French commune in the Charente-Maritime department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region , was cast in 1677. The church bell of bronze is as since 1942 Monument historique classified.

The bell from an unknown bell foundry has the following inscription: “IHMARIA. SAINT PIERRE ORA PRO NOBIS PARRAIN VALLENTIN DU RAYNYER DE DRAVET, CONSEILLER DU ROY, ABBE COMMANDATAIRE DES ABBAYES DE SAINTES IH MARIE MAGDELEINE AUMONIER ORDINAIRE DU ROY SEIGNEUR TEMPOREL ET SPIRITUEL ET LA CHASTELLEINE DEANG CHATEAU. PAX. CHAMBRE ABBATIALE DE LADITE ABBAYE DE SAINT JEAN BEIRE ET SEIGNEURIE PREVOTTALLE DE NEYRE. MESSIRE JEAN MAIGRE PRIEUR CURE DE NEYRE 1677 ”.
