Bell in Vaux-sur-Mer

The bell in the church of St-Etienne in Vaux-sur-Mer , a French commune in the Charente-Maritime department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region , was cast in 1638. The church bell of bronze stands for several years in the nave , it is a 1992 monument historique classified.

The bell from an unknown bell foundry has the following inscription: “Le Roy Louis XIII regnant en France Messire Jacque, Evesque de Xainte et Mr Guy Lanier abbé de Vaux a fait faire cette cloche pour servir Dieu en l'église Saint Etienne de Vaux ce 28 de juin 1638 “(King Louis XIII reigned in France - Reverend Jacques, Bishop of Saintes, and Mr. Guy Lanier, Abbé in Vaux, had this bell poured to serve God in the church of St-Étienne in Vaux - on 28. June 1638).

A relief of a cross can be seen under the inscription .
