Gloria Careaga Pérez

Gloria Angélica Careaga Pérez (born January 28, 1947 in Guadalajara , Mexico ; surname is Careaga PérezSpanish name , outside the Spanish-speaking world also often called Gloria Careaga or Gloria Pérez ) is a social psychologist , feminist and LGBT activist from Mexico City .

Act

Since 1979 she has been teaching at the Psychological Faculty of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Her work focuses on sexuality and society, and in recent years she has focused on gender issues. She is co-founder of the Programa Universitario de Estudios de Genero (PUEG, Gender Studies ) of the university, of which she was the director for ten years (1992-2004). There she established the area of Sexual Diversity Studies in 1998 and showed new perspectives for the analysis of masculinity. Careaga coordinated six anthologies and published numerous articles and book chapters. She was also an advisor to national and international authorities.

Careaga is a co-founder and board member of El Closet de Sor Juana , one of the older lesbian groups in Mexico. She is also a co-founder of the Fundacion Arcoiris , a group that studies and explores sexuality. Together with Beto de Jesus she is the representative of the "LAC" region (Latin America and the Caribbean) on the Executive Board of the International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA). At the ILGA general assembly in September 1999 she was elected representative of the women's secretariat. She is a member of the International Working Group on Sexuality and Social Policy (IWGSSP), which is based at Columbia University , a member of the International Fund Advisory Panel of the Astraea - Lesbian Foundation of Justice , established in 1977, and a member of the International Advisory Board of the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) as well as on the advisory board of the international Hirschfeld-Eddy-Foundation .
