history

Prince Nikolaus II. Esterházy (1765–1833) commissioned the French architect Charles de Moreau (1758–1840), who later also worked at the city palace, with the construction of a garden house named after the prince's wife at the beginning of the 19th century Should be called Marientempel . Construction began in 1804, and the building was ready the next year. During the construction period, the name Gloriette became common due to its elevated location , and it has been used to this day. The Gloriette was the first building outside the palace park, but was connected to it via a visual axis .

The Gloriette was initially used as a hunting lodge . It was later sold to the city. After being severely damaged in World War II , it served as a youth hostel from the early 1950s to the 1960s . After a few years of vacancy, it became a popular meeting place for the citizens of Eisenstadt from 1979 onwards. The youth meeting point was called Die Alm . The building was later also used as a vinotheque and studio. A devastating fire in 1995 caused severe damage. The renovation began in 1999 and lasted until 2004. Then a restaurant moved in. Since a tenant change in 2016, the restaurant has been called "Die Alm".
