Glotta. Journal for Greek and Latin Language is a traditional specialist journal in the field of classical philology . The name Glotta comes from the ancient Greek word γλῶττα ( glotta = tongue).

The magazine Glotta was founded in 1909 by Paul Kretschmer and Franz Skutsch . She mainly deals with problems of the classical ancient languages Latin and Ancient Greek and therefore publishes mainly linguistic, structural and etymological studies. After an interruption due to the Second World War , Kretschmer and Bruno Snell tried to re-establish the magazine, which appeared again from 1948. Current editors are Michael Meier-Brügger and Gerhard Meiser .

Every year Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht publishes two issues, at times also two double issues. Articles are printed in German and English and - contrary to what is stated by the publisher - also in French. Reviews are not published in the Glotta.
