Klaus Strunk

Klaus Strunk (born August 22, 1930 in Düsseldorf ; † September 7, 2018 ) was a German Indo-Europeanist. Strunk was a professor at the universities of Saarland and at the University of Munich .

Life

Klaus Strunk graduated from high school in Düsseldorf in 1950. From 1950 to 1957 he studied comparative linguistics , Greek and Latin at the University of Cologne , and Indology and Baltology at the University of Bonn . In 1957, Strunk received his doctorate in comparative linguistics with the minor subjects Greek and Latin on "The so-called Aeolians of the Homeric language" in Cologne.

In 1957 he was briefly a research assistant at the Lexicon of the Early Greek Epic in Hamburg; in the same year he was again assistant for classical philology at the University of Cologne until 1959 . In 1958 he passed the first state examination for Greek and Latin, in 1965 he qualified as a professor in Cologne in the subject of comparative linguistics on "nasal presentations and aorists " with Hansjakob Seiler . From 1965 to 1967 he was a lecturer in comparative linguistics at the University of Cologne and also represented the chair for comparative linguistics and Indo-Iranian studies at the Saarland University. In 1967 he was appointed full professor for comparative Indo-European linguistics and Indo-Iranian studies at the Saarland University, which he remained until 1977.

From 1977 until his retirement in 1999, Strunk was a full professor for “General and Indo-European Linguistics” at the University of Munich.
