Services
Nickau's edition ( Bibliotheca Teubneriana , 1966) of the late antique dictionary of synonyms, which has been handed down under the name of Ammonius, is considered exemplary. His book on the Homer edition and text-critical method of Zenodot of Ephesus (1977), for which Nickau also wrote the article in Pauly-Wissowa (RE), is considered an important work in the field of ancient Homer philology.
The actual breadth of Nickau's knowledge is shown by his numerous scientific essays. They deal with Herodotus , Sophocles , Aristotle 's poetics , Greek grammarians such as Apollonios Dyskolos , the Bucolic Theocritus , Longos ' pastoral novel , the late antique Historia Lausiaca , Emperor Justinian in Romanos Melodos and Holderlin's Sophocles translations. In the field of Latin literature, Nickau published articles on Cicero's Tusculanen and Lucan's epic Pharsalia . From 1988 to 2001, Nickau served as one of the editors of Glotta magazine .
