Mercy Church

The Gnadenkirche is a Protestant parish church in Rosenau , a district of Seewalchen in the Salzkammergut , Upper Austria . It is the church of the parish Lenzing-Kammer , which includes areas in the parishes Seewalchen am Attersee , Lenzing , Schörfling and Gampern , and belongs to the Upper Austrian Superintendent of the Evangelical Church AB in Austria .

history

The Gnadenkirche stands on Pfarrer-Mathias-Schuster-Platz in the Rosenau settlement that was built in 1956.

On July 13, 1954, a new Lenzing-Kammer parish was founded because the parishes of Vöcklabruck and Attersee were completely overrun by emigrants from Transylvania, Hungary, Yugoslavia and also from Silesia. It takes its name from the Protestant preaching stations Lenzing and Kammer (community Schörfling), which existed before the war. Since 1945, the Displaced Persons Camp Kammer (or Schörfling ) has mainly housed Transylvanians from Weilau (whose village pastor Mathias Schuster founded the parish after his return from captivity). While Kammer was looked after from Attersee (there was a pastor's teacher working here from 1945), Lenzing belonged to the parish Vöcklabruck. It was not until 1953 that the repatriates were granted Austrian citizenship that the future of the former Transylvanian community became apparent.

On June 24, 1956, the first emergency church was consecrated; it was one of the barracks of the Kammer camp that was moved to Rosenau.

In 1957 the construction of the Gnadenkirche began. The inauguration took place on October 31, 1959. The plans were drawn up by the architect Hubert Taferner from Linz. The construction management was entrusted to master builder Hans Schrödl from Vöcklabruck. In the course of the construction of the church, the Rosenau settlement was built, which is called after the couple, the farmers, who made the grounds available to the resettler community.

From the chronicle:

  • 1959 - Peace Bell (1st bell), consecrated October 31, 1959
  • 1960 - interior construction of the church (benches, floor, ...)
  • 1962 - Prayer and signing bell - Swedish bell because it was a gift from Sweden - consecrated May 26, 1962
  • 1962 - Start of construction of the organ, consecration on January 31, 1963

parish

The parish AB Lenzing-Kammer has around 1650 members and also looks after some members of the Helvetic Confession  (HB).

In addition to the Gnadenkirche, the parish also includes the rectory, a residential building, the Protestant cemetery and the Protestant kindergarten. The Lenzing retirement and nursing home is the main preaching station, and ecumenical services are celebrated in the Lenzing and Seewalchen Catholic churches .
