From a good 8 km away, the Jägerhain (to the right of the central Lahnhelle and towered over by the Jagdberg from behind ) looks inconspicuous.

The Jägerhain , formerly also called Saukopf or Sonnenspitze , near Großenbach in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Siegen-Wittgenstein is 651.8  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the Rothaar Mountains .

The Jägerhain is located in the south of the Rothaargebirge and is part of the Ederkopf-Lahnkopf-ridge . The summit of the mountain , which belongs to the district of Nenkersdorf , a district of Netphen , and is located in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park , is about 480 m southwest of Großenbach, a district of Bad Laasphe and about 3 km northeast of the Netphen district of Walpersdorf . Northwestern neighboring Hunter grove is beyond the Siegquelle preferred Aukopf ( 644.9  m ), southern the Lahn head ( 624.9  m ) to the Lahn source and southsouthwest the gray grove (about  638  m ).

Natural allocation

The Jägerhain belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33), in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Dill-Lahn-Eder source area (333.0) to the natural area Ederkopf-Lahnkopf-Ridge (333.01).

Flowing waters

On the northwest slope of the Jägerhain, about 400 m away from the summit, lies the Siegquelle with several small springs in a small headwaters. About 150 m northeast of it rises on its northern slope a nameless tributary of the Ahbach , which flows into the Lahn in Volkholz . The source of the Großenbach is located on its northeast slope, just below the village of Großenbach , and the Ilm rises 830 m south-southwest of the mountain summit in the transition area to the Grauhain , both of which also flow into the Lahn.

Protected areas

Parts of the landscape protection areas Netphen ( CDDA no. 555558489; designated 1985; 117.4529  km² in size) and Bad Laasphe (CDDA no. 555558490; 1987; 122.9381 km²) are located on the Jägerhain . Up to the high elevations of the mountain, those of the fauna-flora-habitat area Rothaarkamm and Wiesentäler (FFH no. 5015-301; 34.46 km²) extend . A little to the south is the Auerhahnwald nature reserve (CDDA No. 81326; 1934; 14.46  ha ).

Traffic and walking

As part of the state road  722, the iron road of the Rothaargebirge , which reaches a height of about 633  m on the south-western slope , leads over the high elevations of the Jägerhain . Grossenbacher Strasse branches off from this road near the Siegquelle, which is located on the northwest slope, as a spur road that runs eastwards to Großenbach . A few meters northwest of this junction, the L 719 (Walpersdorf – Volkholz) crosses the Eisenstrasse. Parallel to Eisenstraße extending Rothaarsteig , in mountain near connects the Victory, Ilm and Lahn source together and, northwest off of the mountain the Eder source happens. Through the territory of Siegquelle the trails lead Siegquelle trail and forest trail Siegquelle .
