The Ahbach , also called Abach , is a 3.4 km long, western and orographically left tributary of the Lahn in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Siegen-Wittgenstein .

The Ahbach rises and runs in the south of the Rothaargebirge and in the southeast of the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature reserve . Its source lies on the border of the Nenkersdorf and Volkholz districts between Benfe in the north and Großenbach in the southeast at about 588 m above sea level. NHN height on the eastern slope of the 644.9 m high Aukopf .
The Ahbach flows through a forested in the upper reaches and seamed in the lower reaches of Forest Valley: southeasterly After initially and then at an easterly flow direction he takes the right side an unnamed tributary to the near located in the south Siegquelle springs and under the first of two adjacent clearings opens . After this the brook turns to the northeast, and after it joins a brook coming from the west, which is also called Ahbach , finally to flow eastwards.
The Ahbach then flows a few meters south of three ponds , of which the middle one is the largest of these still waters at 482 m above sea level. Below it, it flows through an open meadow valley lined with forest, in which it absorbs a nameless trickle from the south on the right , after which the Weibelsbach flows from the northwest from the Weibelskopf ( 620.7 m ). There are two ponds in its mouth. Shortly afterwards, after passing four other ponds, the Hermelsbach, coming from the north and from the same mountain, joins on the left. The stream then reaches the village of Volkholz, which belongs to Bad Laasphe , where the Schönbach flows in from the north on the left.
After flowing through Volkholz , the Ahbach flows into the Lahn, a tributary of the Rhine coming from the south, on the eastern edge of the town at an altitude of about 429 m , directly after crossing under Kreisstraße 34 (Glashütter Straße) .

Natural allocation
The Ahbach rises in the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33) near the border of the main unit Siegerland (331) with the subunit Siegerland Rothaar-Vorhöhen (331.2) in the west to the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) with the subunit Dill-Lahn -Eder headwaters (333.0) in the east. It first flows through the Ederkopf-Lahnkopf-Ridge (333.01) natural area, which is part of the Dill-Lahn-Eder source area, and in Volkholz through the Südwittgensteiner Bergland sub-unit (333.2).
Protected areas
The Ahbach flows - apart from the lower reaches near the mouth in Volkholz - through the landscape protection area Bad Laasphe ( CDDA no. 555558490; designated 1987; 122.9381 km² in size). It flows into the fauna-flora-habitat area Rothaarkamm and Wiesentäler (FFH no. 5015-301; 34.46 km²).
Traffic and walking
About 140 m southeast below the Ahbach spring, the state road 719, which the brook crosses underneath, runs from Walpersdorf - crossing the iron road of the Rothaargebirge near the Siegquelle - and then after this brook crossing always a little north parallel to the Ahbach to Volkholz . Directly above its mouth, the stream crosses the K 34 (Glashütter Straße) , which branches off from the L 719 a little north of the mouth and then leads as a cul-de-sac through Volkholz to the south up the river to the Volkholz hamlet of Welschengeheu . The Rothaarsteig runs around 60 m west of the stream source .
