The Eder source is in the Rothaargebirge preferred source of the 176.1 km long river Eder . It is located near Netphen in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district of North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ). The Eder flows into Hesse near the Edermünder district Grifte as the main hydrological source river of the Weser in the Fulda , the left source river of the Weser.
The main source used to be closed, but in 1991 it was renatured.
geography
location
The Eder spring is located near the geographical center of the Westphalian district of Siegen-Wittgenstein in the southwest of the Rothaargebirge - in the border area between Wittgensteiner Land in the northeast and Siegerland in the southwest. Within the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park , it is located in the east-northeast of the urban area of Netphen in the Nauholz district - about 700 m south-south-west of the Ederkopf ( 650 m above sea level ) near the Erndtebrücker district of Benfe , a southern slope of the Obersten Henn ( 675.9 m ). The Hohenroth forester's lodge is located about 1.4 km (as the crow flies ) west-southwest of the spring at an altitude of around 621 m .
Natural allocation
The Ederquelle belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33) in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Dill-Lahn-Eder source area (333.0) to the natural area Ederkopf-Lahnkopf-Ridge (333.01).
Rhine-Weser watershed
The Rhine-Weser watershed , over which the Eisenstrasse of the Rothaar Mountains runs, runs southwest of the Eder spring . For example, the water of the Netphe , which rises near the Hohenroth forest house, flows through the Sieg into the Rhine, while that of the Eder runs through the Fulda to the Weser.
Source and water supply
The Ederquelle is a hillside debris spring which in the Rothaar Mountains pours an average of around 1.2 liters per second. From a geological point of view, it arises from the boundary layer between the deposited plateau loam and the Klafeld layers folded below . In the source area, a fen with a low peat thickness of between 40 and 50 cm has formed.
The spring water emerges below a small natural stone from a small hole in the ground, behind which there is a widely branched pipe system in which the water from the main spring collects. From there it flows through the Ederbruch spring moor in a northerly direction and after a few hundred meters takes up two source streams from the Eder spring area - one on the left and one on the right - both of which have a significantly higher bed than the main stream. The Eder now leaves the Ederbruch as a brook around 50 cm wide.
Protected areas and flora
The source of the Eder is located in the landscape protection area Netphen ( CDDA -Nr. 390136; designated 1985; 118.9074 km² ) and in the fauna-flora-habitat- area Rothaarkamm and Wiesentäler (FFH-Nr. 5015-301; 34.4146 km²). It is located in the mixed forest , whereby the self-growing conifers have to be removed every few years. Mainly alder and downy birch grow in the Ederbruch. Peat moss and white moss can be found on the ground.
Traffic and walking
About 840 m (as the crow flies) southwest past the Eder spring as part of the state road 722 in the Lützel - Großenbach section , the iron road of the Rothaargebirge , one of several so-called former trade and long-distance routes. It leads among other things, past the eder near-source Sieg and Lahn source . Starting at the street you can on it crossing forests and hiking Kohlenstraße migrate to the source. At another junction, which is near the source at an altitude of 634.3 m , five forest paths and paths meet. Between two intersections where there is a Kyrill path is crossing carbon road near the source of the Eder Rothaarsteig , who is also a source as Bodenlehrpfad something happens to the northwest directly.
