geography

location

The Ederkopf is located in the southern part of the Rothaargebirge on the border of Siegerland and Wittgensteiner Land about 400 m south-southeast of the Oberste Henn , on which the Ederkopf transmission tower is located. Half of it is located in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park in the area of the municipality of Erndtebrück with the district Benfe and the city of Netphen with the district Nauholz , between the 2.1 km east-southeast located village of Benfe (zu Erndtebrück), the 3.8 km west-north-west of the village of Sohlbach (to Netphen) and the 4.3 km to the north-west of Lützel (to Hilchenbach ). The geographical center of the Siegen-Wittgenstein district lies just under 950 m (as the crow flies ) west-southwest of the Ederkopf ; Immediately past there, at 592.9  m above sea level, the Rothaarsteig, which passes the Eder spring directly and also south of the Ederkopf, leads .

Natural allocation

The Ederkopf belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33) in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Dill-Lahn-Eder source area (333.0) to the natural area Ederkopf-Lahnkopf-Ridge (333.01).

Streams and watershed

About 700 m south-southwest of the Ederkopf and 1 km northeast of the iron road of the Rothaargebirge lies the Eder spring in the forest at an altitude of 621  m . The Eder tributary Benfe rises around 700 m south-south-west of the Eder spring a little north of the Eisenstrasse at approximately the same height .

Part of the Rhine-Weser watershed runs along the nearby Eisenstrasse, but not directly over the Ederkopf ; Ultimately, the water from the following rivers reaches the North Sea (distances as the crow flies ):

  • The Eder rises 700 m south-southwest of the Ederkopf , and its water flows through the Fulda into the Weser .
  • The river Lahn rises 5.7 km south-southeast of the Ederkopf near the Lahnkopf and flows into the Rhine .
  • The Sieg rises 3.3 km southeast of the Ederkopf at Jägerhain and also flows into the Rhine.

Ederkopfhöhe

The Ederkopf is 650  m high. The height refers to a forest path and path crossing there (see traffic and hiking ). A few meters south of this intersection is a trigonometric point ( 648.8  m ). There is no summit because the terrain rises from this intersection to Oberste Henn in the north-northwest and drops to the south-southwest to the Eder spring.

The Ederkopfhöhe is often given as around 655  m , but this should refer to the intersection of the Eisen- und Kohlenstraße (see also traffic and hiking ) to the southwest of it ; a just southwest of the intersection situated trigonometric point is on 656.4  m  ( ) height, and a little west of it is a 656.6  m high place. In addition, 650 m south of the Ederkopf and 400 m east of the Eder spring there is a 646.2 m high (nameless?) Knoll  .

Protected areas and flora

Parts of the multi-part nature reserve Rothaarkamm and Wiesentäler ( LP Erndtebrück ; CDDA no. 555560747; 2004 designated; 2.7806  km² in size) as well as those of the landscape protection areas Netphen (CDDA no. 390136; 1985; 118.9074 km²) extend on the Ederkopf . and Erndtebrück (CDDA no. 389566; 2011; 60.6865 km²). In addition, areas of the fauna-flora-habitat area Rothaarkamm and Wiesentäler (FFH No. 5015-301; 34.4146 km²) spread out there. In the collection are deciduous and otherwise mostly coniferous forest parcels of Wittgenstein's Forst .

Traffic and walking

About 1.5 km (as the crow flies) southwest past the Ederkopf leads in a north-west-south-east direction with the iron road of the Rothaargebirge crossing the coal road there, one of several former trade and long-distance traffic routes, from which the elevation can be seen on forest paths and - can hike trails. About 480 m west of this intersection, where there are two parking spaces, the Hohenroth forester's house and a measuring station are located near a point 638.7  m high . At another intersection, which is located directly on the Ederkopf at an altitude of 650  m , five forest paths and paths meet. Between two intersections where there is a Kyrill path there that crosses the forest road carbon road near the source of the Eder Rothaarsteig .
