The Rothaarkamm and Wiesentäler is a nature reserve in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district . It has a total area of ​​1,176 hectares and consists of two sub-areas. The nature reserve was established in 1930 and a further sub-area in 2004 and has the CDDA no. 329599.

The NSG Rothaarkamm and Wiesentäler is divided into two sub-areas: the main surface is 892.36 hectare (ha) tall and approximately covers the surface of the upper Edertal slightly below the Eder source between the junction Dreifichtenweg and Altenteich from where some surrounding ridge, such as the Kühlberg and parts of the Oberste Henn are in the nature reserve. In addition, the Wehbachtal , the Ginsberger Heide near the Giller , as well as several peaks in the area of ​​the Ginsburg and near the federal road 508 (B508), as well as the upper Wälderbachtal belong to the NSG.

In 2004 the additional sub-area NSG Rothaarkamm and Wiesentäler LP Erndtebrück was designated. This covers a large part of the Benfetal and the valleys of its tributaries on an area of ​​287.06 hectares .

The area can be reached by car via the B62, B508, L720 and L722, the iron road of the Rothaargebirge . It is accessible on foot through the Rothaarsteig and various farm roads.

Protection purpose

The nature reserve is to receive significant habitats of a forest complex with near-natural meadow valleys. Above all, the acidic beech forests, bog forests, a ravine forest, springs, tall herbaceous and forest fringes, fen meadows and poor pastures are named as valuable biotopes. Furthermore, there are numerous endangered species added as the common pipistrelle , brown long-eared , midwife toad , dormouse , brook lamprey and bullhead .
